Waste Reduction: Avoncourt Packaging is committed to reducing packaging waste as part of its overall business objectives. We have invested heavily in recycling equipment and now either process or granulate all of our in-house waste plastic. This has significantly reduced the amount we send to landfill.

Tool Design: We ensure that the most efficient product designs are used (e.g. to allow for down-gauging of material etc.) This is vital in reducing the amount of material used in the process, the weight of product being transported as well as the end-of-life handling of the waste product.

Recycling: All tools built in the last 5 years have the relevant recycling and identification logos engraved where possible. We promote the use of R-PET as a more sustainable and environmentally friendly option as it contains up to 65% post-consumer waste from fully traceable and approved sources. This material greatly reduces the amount of virgin petro-chemical polymers used in the packaging process. All of our timber, cardboard and waste oil is collected for recycling in line with our REPAK commitments.

Energy: We continue to strive towards a more efficient process and have achieved an energy saving of 21% this year through capital expenditure, upgrades and training. These initiatives are just part of an on-going programme to reduce our carbon footprint.

Repak is Ireland’s first voluntary initiative between industry and the Department of the Environment designed to meet industry’s producer responsibility obligations under the EU directive on packaging and packaging waste (94/62/EC) and the subsequent Waste Management (Packaging) Regulations 1997
